New Orleans

Boxing day morning was misty and the whole town was eerily quiet- a great day to go to extremely busy restuarents for cafe au lait and beignets!

Apparently the raised tombs aren't so much about the boggy land as just that it's a catholic tradition and this is a catholic city. Makes sense to me. Ben loved them, viewing the whole cemetery as a maze for his pleasure. Keeping track of him required agility.

Sightseeing with a toddler is very different to sightseeing with a babe-in-arms. For one thing, you keep having to let him loose in parks to let off steam a bit.

He got very tired and cross when we tried to persuade him to take his middle of the day nap in his pushchair, (so we could see one more museum) - and it didn't really work. He did love the street performers, though, and had been dancing to a cellist until he decided he needed to be picked up.

The trolley (tram) car took us neatly to and from our friends' house and the French Quarter, and Ben really enjoyed riding it.
